Hillcoat’s ultra-violence shocks in Triple 9 trailer

Atticus Ross Reveals Details Of John Hillcoat's Triple 9 film still

John Hillcoat delivered viewers another look at the bootlegging period of American history with Shia LeBeouf leading in Lawless back in 2012.

Now, some three years later Hillcoat is moving into the present-day tackling gangs, violence and police corruption in an ultra-violent battle with the human condition and inherent immorality.

This may sound a little deep for a police corruption crime flick but Casey Affleck looks astonishing and Woody Harrelson looks set to reprise a similar role to that of Marty Hart from award-winning True Detective.

But the similarities don’t end there. In many ways the trailer alludes to a storyline rather similar to True Detective but with a dash of The Town and an air of French Connection. The ensemble of intellectual film references sewn together by the informed Hillcoat requires an equally diverse cast, and he delivers.

Consisting of Affleck, Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Martian), Anthony Mackie, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus and Kate Winslet Triple 9 is welcomed amongst the Hollywood elite as a film to watch come early Spring 2016.

  1. Whoa. That looks like that could be really damn good. I enjoyed Lawless well enough. Hardy made it more than LeBeouf did but he was still a presence in it. Will keep an eye out for Triple 9 then!

  2. Ooooo this has me pumped. Hillcoat is one of our best directors, before Lawless he made the The Road with Viggo which was stunning. He also often collaborates with Nick Cave on the soundtracks, I wonder if that’ll be the case here….

    Can’t wait for this one

    1. This one kind of took me by surprise. I just saw the artwork pop up and it caught my attention. I’m glad I checked it out. I’m not too familiar with Hillcoat so I’ll have a butcher’s at his filmography, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.
